TheCommonJournal at thecommonjournal.org is a community journal website. For privacy questions or requests, email mdhasmat7@gmail.com.
Information we use
Google sign-in provides account identifiers, email, name, and profile photo. We do not receive your Google password. Your email is used for authentication and is not displayed on public profiles. We store profile details you provide, journals and drafts, comments, reactions, follows, bookmarks, in-site notifications, content reports, contest entries, and account-linked contest votes. Service providers may process IP addresses, browser information, request logs, and security information.
How information is used
We use information to operate accounts, publish journals and profiles, save drafts, support reader interactions, rank Top journals, deliver in-site notifications, handle reports, and respond to support requests.
Public and private information
Display names, profile pictures, bios, filled-in personal details, published journals, and approved comments are public. Journals and comments currently publish immediately. Reaction totals and types are public; account-linked reaction records are stored in the database. Drafts, bookmarks, notification inboxes, and reports are restricted to their account owners or authorized administrators as appropriate. Reports are not publicly displayed.
Public content may be copied, shared, or indexed. Removing it here cannot remove copies held by other people or search engines. Do not publish sensitive personal information you do not want public.
Contests
Contest entries and vote totals are public. Votes are associated with signed-in accounts to enforce one vote per account per contest. Your own selected vote is visible to you. Contest votes are separate from journal likes. The administrator manages contests and selects Editor’s Pick. Removing a contest removes its entry and vote records but not the underlying journals.
Browser storage and service providers
Browser storage maintains your login session, remembers day/night mode, and completes login redirects. Signing out ends the website session; your theme preference may remain until browser storage is cleared. Blocking storage can affect these features.
GitHub Pages hosts this website. Supabase provides authentication, database records, and uploaded profile-photo storage. Google provides sign-in. The Supabase client library loads through esm.sh. External image links contact the image host when displayed. Providers may process information outside your country.
Provider notices: GitHub, Supabase, and Google.
Advertising
Advertising code and advertising tracking are not currently enabled in this website build. Before ads are enabled, we will update this notice to describe the providers and related data use and add any required consent controls.
Retention and your choices
Records remain stored to operate these features unless removed. You can delete your own journals, comments, and reactions through website controls. Replaced uploaded profile photos are scheduled for deletion, with failed cleanup retried. Original Google or other externally hosted images are not deleted from their providers. Content reports may retain a copy of reported material for review even if the original is removed.
There is currently no self-service account-deletion or export button. Email the contact address above to request access, correction, export, or account deletion. We may verify account ownership. Requests are handled according to applicable requirements; some records may remain in provider logs or backups or where needed for security or legal obligations. No fixed deletion deadline is promised here.
Security and updates
Access controls restrict private information, but no online service guarantees complete security. Contact us about suspected unauthorized access. This page will be updated when data practices change.
